Wiggle - Day 400

We're off to Weymouth this afternoon, straight after work, for our first 'solo' camping trip. Only going away for 3 nights but hopefully the weather will sort itself out and if not, we'll still have a good time.

Sir H is booked into a local kennels for doggy day care tomorrow so that Wiggle and I can do some longer walkers & exploring.

The car is packed, just need to work today and then this afternoon we'll be off! Hopefully we'll be reporting back on Monday about having had a great weekend!

Wiggle - Day 398, Remembering a Special Day

Two years ago today, I drove to South Wales to meet Dolly. She was an ex-breeding bitch who as fate would have it, was Poppy's daughter.

Dolly came home that day, 22nd July 2007 and from that day and for the one year and 2 months she was here, lived a happy life, being loved and having fun. After 6 horrid years, Dolly finally had a sofa to call her own.

Sadly, Poppy died just a few weeks later, but Dolly had Bumpy and together, they shared some happy times and adventures, including going on the top deck of the ferry to the Isle of Wight.

By April 2008, Sir H had arrived and we'd said our final goodbye to Bumpy. Then, as you all kow, Wiggle arrived in June and helped Dolly celebrate her Gotcha Day.

For 3 months, Wiggle and Dolly were best of friends, until that sad day in September last year when Dolly passed away.

Wiggle doesn't know it's a special day today, but I'm sure he remembers his choccie sister and misses her as much as I do....

Wiggle - Day 397

Sir H is continuing to get better, which is great news. He's still not up to walking too far but each time we've been out today, he's pottered about and enjoyed being out in the fresh air. We managed to avoid the rain and Sir H enjoyed a roll in the damp grass and then watched while Wiggle played fetch this evening.

On Friday, after work, we're going camping for the weekend. I've been getting all our stuff together and today the new windbreak arrived that I ordered online. Wiggle decided that to help me check it, he needed to be on the rug with me, with his tennis ball!

For a brief moment, his attention was diverted away from his ball:

But before long, it was back to having a good chomp on the tennis ball:

Even when I was trying to stretch out the fabric, Wiggle was not going to move!

Once I'd finished checking the contents and packing it all up again, Wiggle decided that he did want to have a good sniff:

Hopefully Wiggle will show more excitement at the weekend!

Wiggle - Day 396

Sir H has been to the vets this evening for his check-up. Malcolm was very pleased with how he is doing. Sir H has been rather perky, especially after having been so poorly on Friday. He's eating better now and even ate the rice in his chicken dinner this evening!

On the way to the vets, we stopped off at Maude Heath so the boys could have a walk. Sir H pottered about, quite happily:

Wiggle had a great time running around, chasing after his ball:

Sir H stopped for a lie down:

But of course Wiggle didn't have time to stop and take in the scenery!

Wiggle stopped to catch his breath & of course to look handsome:

But after sitting briefly, he was up again, waiting for me to throw the ball:

Sir H found some good smells to sniff, while Wiggle was busy fetching his ball:

Sir H, still oblivious to Wiggle's activities!

Wiggle, happily running around still:

After all that activity, it was time to rest and in Sir H's case, a roll around:

Sir H, handsome old chap:

Wiggle, waiting for the ball while Sir H enjoys the fresh air and nice views:

Back to running around for Wiggle:

Sir H enjoyed another roll around on the grass:

But Wiggle was still running!

Sir H, looking happy!

Wiggle had one more throw of the ball before we headed off to the vets

Sir H still has the anti-biotics and while I was at the vet, I saw the xrays which were taken on Friday. His hips are really bad and I was shown there the arthritis "spurs" are. Once Sir H is back to full health, he can start on the Metacam, just to make sure that it doesn't upset his tummy but we were told it's ok to start the Tramadol painkillers this evening.

We'll go back in 2 weeks to see how Sir H is and whether the new medication is helping him, but fingers crossed, he'll be more comfortable now.

While I'm posting this entry, I just wanted to say thank you for all the kind messages for Sir H. It really is lovely to think that so many other people are wishing my boy well.

Wiggle - Day 395

Sir H had a good night and is eating most of his chicken and rice. Mostly the chicken! He's been having a little scrambled egg too though and small meals seem to suit him better at the moment.

We're back at the vets tomorrow evening but I'm very happy that Sir H had a quiet night. Wiggle is happy to have him home and has been checking up on the patient, so all is well again right now.

Here's a little video from yesterday of Sir H, enjoying the fresh air on the Downs:

Wiggle - Day 394, Sir H is Home!

Sir H is home!!

I called the vets this morning to get an update and they said Sir H had perked up after a good night's sleep and although still on the drip at that time, could come home this afternoon. When I went to get him, he came bouncing out to see me - a completely different dog to the one who'd collapsed yesterday.

We're back at the vets Monday evening, just to see how he's doing and although I've been given the Metacam and Tramadol for Sir H's HD and Spondylosis, I've got to wait until the vet says Sir H can have the new meds.

Sir H seemed very pleased to be home and spent some time out in the garden, getting some fresh air:

After a light supper of chicken and rice and some more sleeping, I took the boys up to the Downs. It seemed a good idea as once we're out of the car, Sir H didn't have to walk too far but could still get out and sniff some new smells.

Wiggle, as usual, was happy to run around and chase after his ball on a rope:

While Sir H took things a little easier:

Wiggle just wanted to play:

And look a bit cheeky!

Sir H, hopefully happier than he looked!

Showing off his bald patches after being shaved at the vets:

And an upright Sir H:

Here's a little video of Wiggle and his ball:

Sir H is now settled down for the night and fingers crossed, will catch up on some more sleep and not have any more scary moments!

Sir H is at the vets.....

Poor Sir H is still at the vets. I took him in this morning as he was having x-rays and blood tests done. The vet rang after lunchtime to let me know that the tests had been done.

Sir H has servere hip displaycia in both hips as well as spondylosis in his spine and muscle wastage in his rear legs. The blood tests were ok though and the next step was for Sir H to be given Metacam and Tramadol - anti-inflammatories and painkillers.

However, while I was in reception at the vets, waiting for Sir H to be brought out, he collapsed and passed blood. I was able to see hin briefly but he's been kept in and is now on a drip and being observed.

Hopefully Sir H can come home tomorrow afternoon but needless to say, I'm very worried. Malcolm, the vet, was as surprised as me and poor Sir H was looking very sorry for himself.

We'd both be very grateful for some good thoughts.....

Wiggle, however, is fine. We've been out and about today and he's enjoyed a long walk, a visit to a camping store and then stopping off at the pet shop on the way home. So far, he's ok without Sir H being here but hopefully he'll have his brother home again tomorrow
