Wiggle - Day 2,854

On Friday we were up and out early as the weather forecast promised nice weather.  Thankfully, it wasn't wrong and we arrived at the coast with beautiful sunshine:

As much as I hate the thought of Wiggle no longer being with me, I know that with his age and mobility problems, days out are going to be less and less so I wanted to take him to the beach.  And I'm so grateful for our special day out and seeing how happy Wiggle was.

Wiggle stayed on lead, just in case he got caught by a wave:

Sofy was a Very Good Girl and made friends with a Spaniel and Labrador that she met and kept herself busy, going in and out of the water:

Wiggle and Sofy had a fabbie couple of hours, paddling in the water, enjoying the sunshine and Wiggle especially got lots of hugs and extra treats.

Poor Wiggle was soon tired so we made our way back to the car so he could rest and have a drink and settle down before we headed for home:

Wiggle - Day 2,840

It's been another quiet week for Wiggle, plenty of sleeping, his hydrotherapy session, some gentle strolls but best of all, he continues to be happy and waggy.

With Crufts this week, it made me think back to when Wiggle went for the first time in 2010 and again in 2014.

We had a great time when we went and there was an opportunity for us to have gone this year but it would have been too much for Wiggle.  Even the walk from the car into the hall would have been more than he could manage but it's ok, we have wonderful memories to think back on.

Wiggle - Day 2,833

Poor Wiggle hasn't had the best week.  After having such a lovely day on Sunday he didn't want his breakfast on Monday and had been poorly by the time I got home from work.  He walked away from his dinner and just looked sad.

He didn't want much to eat but did manage a jar of organic baby food for dinner and breakfast the next day and knowing how much he loves his swimming, I took him in the hope it would cheer him up.  Although Wiggle was excited to be there, he just wasn't enjoying himself and only swam a few lengths and then just stood in the water.

On the way home I got Wiggle some tinned dog food and now he has decided that he much prefers that to kibble and so long as he is eating, I will give him whatever he will eat.

Thankfully, over the last few days Wiggle has picked up and is feeling a lot better, back to being cuddly and nudging me for more fuss if I stop.  He's getting plenty of rest and as much love as I can give him.

Needless to say, it's been an emotional week for me, worrying so much about Wiggle and the dreaded thoughts of losing him crossing my mind.  I've gone through the heartbreak of losing a dog plenty of times before, first with Guinness, then Poppy, Bumpy, Dolly and Sir H and as special and loved as each of them were, Wiggle is super special and this week he showed me he's not ready to leave me yet.

Wiggle - Day 2,826

Today Wiggle is 13 years and 5 months old!  As much as it breaks my heart to think that I might not get to celebrate another birthday for Wiggle I decided that we should celebrate months now.

We had a sunny start to our day which made Wiggle happy as he lounged on his bed:

Then we went up to the Downs.  Wiggle doesn't run anymore and although he fell over a few times, he still enjoyed a little walk:

Sofy was busy bringing the ball back to me:

Happy Wiggle:

While Sofy ran around, Wiggle and I sat for a while, enjoying the view together:

Wiggle - Day 2,819

Wiggle continues to spend plenty of time relaxing, in between being thoroughly spoilt with special treats and plenty of fuss.  Sofy takes care of Wiggle too:

Looking back 6 years ago, we still had lovely old Sir H and on this Sunday in 2010, we had sunshine and went to the Downs:

Wiggle was fast then with Sofy not able to keep up!

This week we've had Lilly staying with us but today, not such nice weather.  Wiggle stayed home when I took the girls to the Downs:

Wiggle - Day 2,812

Wiggle was happy that we had sunshine today as he really doesn't like rain and nasty weather.  When he was younger, he didn't care but now he is more picky when he walks.

His old eyes are cloudy and he can't hear much any more, but he's happy:

Old age hasn't affected his personality and if anything, he is more cheeky but that just makes me love him even more!

Wiggle - Day 2,801

I'm very pleased to report that Wiggle has been feeling better since the weekend.  He's been taking his antibiotics (hidden in dollops of Brussels pate!) and hasn't been sick although still wants to eat his meals half at a time.  That's fine with me; I'm just happy that he is eating better.

Last night Wiggle went swimming which is his most favourite thing to do.  He looks so blissfully happy, swimming for his toy or just resting and floating in the warm water.  He doesn't worry about wobbling or falling over, he's just happy.

At his age, there will be days when Wiggle worries me and I fear that we are nearing the day I dread.  But when I look at him, like I am now, and see him looking back at me through his cloudy eyes, I just think of how special he is and how lucky I am that Wiggle came to me back in June 2008.
